This post is not some homage to one of the top selling toys of the 80’s you'll be relieved to know, but it is about a little pony. We’ve been busy researching and working in the travel sector for the last couple of months – lucky us!
Whilst pouring over many, many online travel sites I stumbled across this recently launched little gem… www.travelpony.com, which purports to be the fastest growing travel site today!
Travelpony claims to save you anywhere between 10-70% off the cost of a room. In fairness that’s not any more than most major travel sites/consolidators claim, but the difference here is that users access the site via their Facebook login and the deals with over 2,000 top hotel partners are competitive thanks to users’ willingness to share a post on their Facebook or Twitter social media channels.
It’s not so much the promise of cheap(er) accommodation that I like (although I’m only human in that respect), its the principle of a travel site working its audience to drive traffic and raise its profile, rather than investing in a large marketing budget to generate awareness. Quite simply, that should mean the savings generated from NOT spending a king’s ransom on marketing get passed on to customers. That’s the theory although I haven’t yet put it to the test.
Give it a go if you’re about to jet off to the US (all major cities are covered) or London, Madrid, Paris or Barcelona (limited representation but growing) and let me know what you think. If it delivers what it claims, then I think this could very well be the next big thing in little ponies!
