Today is supposed to be the most depressing day of the year. According to experts the toxic combination of bad weather, post Christmas debt, far too many days until pay day and broken resolutions all collide to compound the misery of Monday!
Interestingly it is also the most popular day to book a holiday. Holiday firms capitalise on this with low deposit deals and deferring the pay pain until the Spring; when we will all be feeling a bit more optimistic and wealthy.
You may notice your social media feeds filling up with party entertainers and cake makers too. That's because people look forward to events in the year and start booking, party planners site January as their biggest month for bookings.
This taps into a Millennial trend - "Experience Economy," rather than spending money in the traditional January sales 66% of people in this age group prefer to have events to look forward to rather than more stuff.
This trend has fuelled start ups like Airbnb, Uber and WeWork as they chase an experience heavy lifestyle. So this January be like a Millennial and bag yourself some experiences but be quick they are booking up fast!
