BRAND LONDON

August 13, 2014

You only have to look across the London skyline to know our capital is an exciting creative hothouse right now.  Littered with cranes (not the creative bit – but then again it depends what your perspective is), the landscape is now home to the ‘cheese grater’ and the ‘walkie-talkie’ … with the much talked about ‘boomerang’ and ‘scalpel’ set to follow, amongst others, in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

And keep looking because whilst the temperature is slowly on the wane, the fashion industry is getting hotter and hotter.  Its hard to ignore what lies beneath the covers of September’s Vogue – all 462 pages of new season deliciousness – in their biggest ever UK edition.  I normally flick through the pages, but there’s something about the forthcoming month’s issue that leads you to explore every page, meticulously delighting in all the hidden layers of detail in the beautifully styled and shot fashion spreads.  Venture forth onto the High Street and the fall collections hitting right now are enough to get the heart pounding, the palm’s sweating and the adrenalin pumping.  Who needs Barry’s Bootcamp when you can run around the shops in your lunch hour?

And it doesn’t stop there … London’s tech industry is booming.  We’ve got inspirational developers creating fantastic stuff and attracting huge international investment (representing 26 per cent of new job creation across the capital in recent years, and purported to top £12 billion revenues over the next decade).  Its easy to see why Silicon Roundabout is the new global digital powerhouse.

With theatres packed to the gills every night (and not just because the greatest actors on earth are appearing on stage), music venues and events offering something for everyone, a sky- rocketing film industry and burgeoning restaurant and bar scene – not to mention all the pop- ups and awesome street art contributing to the freshness and fluidity of the city – the step change is evident for everyone to see and experience.  With all this stimulating and inspiring creativity taking place, how can the most amazing city in the world not entice, exhilarate and influence people and attract investment from every corner of the globe?

It might be the time of year when the annual postcard says “wish you were here”.  I for one cannot imagine being anywhere else.
